Dog Skin Disease
For those who loves dogs, and come on who does not, the most important thing is the dog’s health. A dog can become victim to a whole lot of diseases, most similar to human kinds of diseases, and it is always best to let the veterinarian take a look although it only seem to be a bad meal or a simple case of the sniffles. Dogs and humans have one huge difference though, the fur. Dogs are much more sensitive to skin diseases simply because of the fur that covers it and such diseases should always be looked upon by a veterinarian.
Dog Skin Diseases – Lice
Lice have a lot in common with fleas but are smaller and will not move around as much, while fleas travel from animal and animal lice make camp and stay exactly where they are. In small numbers lice are neither a serious threat nor a problem hard to get rid off. Left untreated though, lice can become a huge problem that will drain the health out of the dog. A major infestation upon a dog could even, given enough time, take a dogs life. Luckily lice can be treated with ease, either by using products bought at your local pet store or handed to you by the veterinarian.
Dog Skin Diseases – Leeches
Leeches might seem as a disgusting creature but at the same time is it one of the least serious things that can happen to a dog. Leeches has most probably derived from the normal worm and lives by sucking the blood of other animals, including humans. Leeches are very seldom carriers of any dangerous diseases and are not dangerous. Therefore there is really no need to remove the leech, one can simple let it finish and detach. Removal is though very simple but it is important that the wound that the leech leaves behind is treated so that it will not get infected.
Dog Skin Diseases – Scabies
Scabies is a very common skin disease in mistreated street dogs but can also affect a relatively healthy dog if unlucky. Scabies is the result of very small creatures, known as mites, infecting the area around the dogs, eyes, ears and paws. The fur will fall off, the skin will become flaky and it will most probably be impossible to get the dog to stop scratching the affected areas. The mites are so tiny that they only can be seen in a microscope and even when it is established that it is mites one needs to know what kind of mites it is so the dog can get the right kind of treatment. In other words is scabies something best left to the veterinarian.
Dog Skin Diseases – Healthy dog
The best way to avoid any of the dog skin diseases is to have a healthy dog. A correct diet, regular grooming and a bath a little now and then will make wonders upon the health of the dog’s skin and fur. A nice fur is also a sign for a healthy skin so it is quite easy to see on a dog if it has some kind of disease, or if it is healthy.
